Casino History & Heritage

Gaming in Baden-Baden dates to 1809 and moved into the Weinbrenner-designed Kurhaus in 1824; the French entrepreneur Jacques Bénazet and his son Édouard commissioned the Parisian decorators whose salons still define the rooms today. The tables closed when Germany banned gambling in 1872 and did not reopen until 1950. Brenners Park-Hotel began as a private villa converted to a guesthouse by Anton Brenner in 1872 and is today part of the Oetker Collection.
