Casino History & Heritage
The Casino de Monte-Carlo and the Hôtel de Paris were both created by the Société des Bains de Mer, chartered in 1863 under François Blanc to rescue the principality's finances. The casino's landmark wing, including the Salle Garnier opera house, was designed by Charles Garnier and inaugurated in 1879; the hotel opened alongside it in 1864 and has been rebuilt and extended repeatedly, most recently in a four-year renovation completed in 2018.
